  • Always check up the hill for skiers.

With skis pointed across the hill, twist your upper body to face roughly down the hill.

Lift and step the downhill ski towards the flow line, then follow with a downhill step of the uphill ski. Within about two or three steps, the skis should be pointed down the flow line and you'll be picking up speed.

Stop stepping and steer both skis to finish the turn.

As your skis cross the flow line, immediately start the sequence again by stepping the downhill ski down the flow line.

Practice and get comfortable with it, then do it on moderate terrain.

Tips:

  • Make tiny steps.
  • Keep the upper body and hands facing slightly downhill.
  • Don't lean into turns.
  • Point the tips of the skis.
  • Keep your shins in contact with the tongues of your boots--stay in the Sweet spot.
