Play a game with a partner, preferably someone who's better than you.

This game includes a leader and a follower. The follower should stay about one and a half ski lengths behind the leader, but keep a distance that's safe and comfortable for everyone.

• It is the leader's job to mix up the turns. Change the shape, speed and the direction of the turns, throwing in a series across the hill, perhaps.

The follower should have a primary focus on the leader's back and a soft focus on his or her track. This will also help you flow through the turns by helping to stabilize your upper body. (Focusing on the back will only work if the leader is at least one and a half ski lengths ahead.)

  • Learn to trust and rely on your peripheral vision.
  • Take turns being the leader.
  • Be careful of other skiers and potential hazards.
  • Watch your leader carefully to avoid accidents.
