Hopefully you don't have one-footed skiing ingrained in you, because for effective mogul skiing you need to learn how to weight your skis more equally.

Ease into this by learning the trick on groomed intermediate terrain.

Ski long radius turns and as you cross the flow line, shift pressure from the normally weighted outside ski, to the inside ski. Keep increasing the weight shift every time you cross the flow line, until you stand only on the inside ski as you cross the flow line.

Now from weighing only the inside ski, gradually transfer the weight to the outside ski, until you feel your skis equally weighed throughout linked turns.

Having mastered that, gradually shorten the turn radius until you can make short turns on groomed terrain with your skis always weighted equally.

Now try this equal-weighted turns in the moguls.

  • Be patient, as it can take days to master this technique fully.
  • Make sure you don't "bank" by leaning your whole body into the hill--always keep your upper body facing slightly down the hill.
  • Stay in the Sweet spot!
