You won't learn to ski the bumps by just skiing them--acquire the basic skills of mogul skiing on tiny bumps, before gradually setting your sights higher.

Leave your buddies behind and find a beginner or intermediate hill with tiny bumps--small moguls in their infancy. Graduate to bigger bumps and/or steeper terrain, only when you feel completely comfortable on the blimps.

It's not just important to start small--you also have to learn the correct technique. Small bumps will help you to focus on the line where you initiate the turn--the line that runs straight down the flow line to the highest point of the mogul. If you stand on this line facing across the hill, your ski's tails and tips will be in the air, making it super easy to pivot your skis--the line where you want to initiate every mogul turn. Find The Line; ski it; and make friends with in.

Now let's ski these mini-moguls. And remember:

  • Start your turns on The Spot.
  • Stretch the first part of the turn out with a very short straight run.
  • Keep your upper body facing straight down the hill.
