- Don't do this exercise if you have any existing
injuries or physical problems.
First garlands
Begin with a traverse.
Flex all joints and aim your navel and shoulders at a
target down the hill.
Hop your skis up and land with them pointing straight down
the flow line--upon landing, steer them back into the same traverse, and
gradually increase the edging to get a bite in the snow. Do this a number of
times in each direction.
- If the upper body was facing down the hill, the skis
will unwind and land in the flow line after the hop.
- Be sure to keep the tips of the skis down, so they
land first.
Now complete a turn
With your skis across the hill and the upper body aimed at
a target downhill, hop them up and land with them pointing straight down the
flow line. This time steer them through the turn with a hard edge set and pole
plant. Do this on both sides a few times.
- When hopping into the air, make sure you start from a
flexed position and use the extension of your legs only to get your skis into
the air.
Next, with skis across the hill, and your upper body aimed
at a target down the hill, and your legs flexed, hop up and redirect the skis
completely in the other direction. Land with a hard edge set and pole plant down
the flow line from your feet--that s the Jam.
Elephant hop into a hard edge set.
Upon landing, hop again and land with another jam.
- Use the energy of the jamming edge set to pop you back
up. It shouldn't require too much energy to hop.
