Instructors love to debate the mechanics of short turns, but let's not labor the point here.

In dynamic short radius turns, strive to:

  • Maintain a relaxed and efficient stance, with feet slightly apart.
  • Keep a countered stance, with your upper body staying stable, while facing down the hill, as opposed to your legs and feet that rapidly change direction.
  • Steer both skis simultaneously and actively in the same direction.
  • Extend down the hill from the uphill ski at the end of turns (roughly where your skis are across the fall line,) to achieve a carved turn.

Remember: Practice exercises in sequence as a means towards our ultimate goal--to have fun!
