- It is best to do this on very easy terrain to begin
with, because you'll pick up speed quickly.
Face slightly across the flow line with your eyes on a
target.
With short, lazy extensions at first, then with more and
more energy, skate towards the target. See Skating if you don't know how.
After a few skating steps, extend strongly off the uphill
ski as if making a skate, but this time don't step onto the other ski--finish
the long turn down the hill on that outside ski.
Complete the turn and skate-into-a-turn in the other
direction.
As you master the technique, connect turns with skating
traverses.
- Don't steer (twist) your skis around the turn--carve a
pure turn by letting the deflection (decambering) of the outside ski in the
last "step" shape the turn.
- Don't sway from side to side. "Pump" with
your arms. Your legs should be working directly under you and your eyes and
upper body should be steady and focused on a target.
