Instructors worldwide basically agree on what
constitutes a great long radius turn. Yes, there are subtle variations and
debate continues on the subject, but in the end it comes down to the basics.
In dynamic long radius turns, strive to:
- Maintain a relaxed and efficient stance, with feet
slightly apart.
- Avoid skidding and carve through the entire turn.
- Keep a slightly countered stance, with your upper body
staying relatively stable while facing slightly down the hill, as opposed to
your legs and feet that gradually change direction.
- Steer both skis simultaneously and actively in the same
direction.
- Extend down the hill from the uphill ski at the end of
turns (roughly where your skis are across the fall line,) to achieve a
carved turn.
