  • It is best to do this on easy to moderate terrain to begin with, because, as with skating maneuvers, you'll pick up speed.

Begin by doing a herringbone walk up a very shallow hill with little tiny steps off the inside edges just under the arch to heel of the foot.

Turn up the volume and with each step, propel yourself up the hill. Add strong "pumping" with your arms.

  • Don't sway from side to side. Your legs should be working directly under you and your eyes and upper body should be focused on a target.

Now, for the easy part
Face down the flow line with your eyes on a target down the hill.

With lazy extensions, skate down the flow line just as you did going up the hill.

As you acquire the technique, turn up the volume and propel yourself more energetically.

  • Keep your upper body steady down the flow line, just as you did when going up the hill. Don't sway from side to side, but still "pump" with your arms.
