Make shallow wedge turns on gentle terrain.

At the beginning of a turn, as you start pointing down the hill, begin tapping the tip of the inside ski onto the snow. Continue tapping and guiding the inside ski until you've completed the turn and face in the other direction, across the hill.

Start the new turn and tap the new inside ski as you shape the turn.

Combine tapping and turning the inside foot with the powering and pointing of the outside ski.

• As you practice this, try tapping the ski earlier and earlier in the turn.
• Keep your hands in front and your shoulders facing slightly down the hill.

It may feel as if your legs are going in a different direction from your body--it's supposed to. When your body is turned slightly to face down the hill, it helps the skis to unwind in the direction of the new turn.
